Dr. Rik Danielsen, Director of Evangelism & Missions for the Yavapai Baptist Association, graced us last Sunday with a sermon observing World Hunger Sunday as part of our Social Justice sermon series.
Here is the video we viewed and then the sermon he preached.

We are a Southern Baptist church, but did you know the Southern Baptist Convention only exists for two days each year? That’s right, the SBC is not “a Church”, it is a convention of churches cooperating for missions. So, the Southern Baptist Convention is only when those churches are convening to conduct their mutual business of funding missions. Various agencies of the SBC are empowered to act on our behalf during the year, but in 2011 the SBC will only be visible on June 14-15.
There will be no Wednesday services on June 15, because we want everyone to attend or be in prayer for the SBC.
Here is a link to the annual meeting website, which will include news and live video of what is happening: www.sbcannualmeeting.net
“Greetings, I am Joseph, son of Jacob, son of Matthan, son of Eleazar, of Zerubbabel, Josiah, and David. We have come to stay and register for the census.”
“Greetings, my brother, and son of David. You are welcome here, but we have no more space in our guest room. You may stay with our family.”
“My wife is pregnant and her days are full to give birth to her firstborn.”
“No problem son, we have many women here to assist her on this special occasion.”
Later…
“The baby is born! Hallelujah! Where can we place him such that he will not suffer harm in this crowded house during the night?”
“Look! The manger is the perfect size and height – fill it with straw and lay him there.”
And then, on a distant hillside, a group of dirty, cold, hard-working shepherds attended the choir performance of a lifetime.

The entire community is welcome to join with us for a Christmas Eve service. We will sing traditional carols, pray, and meditate on the Christmas story. A well-loved part of the service is singing “Silent Night” by candlelight.

We were privileged to participate in the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Voice of the Martyrs representative the Rev. Bill Witt instructed and inspired us with an update on the status of persecuted brothers around the globe. We cannot give away the presentation slides, but here is the audio.

“A church is a community of biblical faith that is unified in its common confession and commitment to the glory of God through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ the Lord.”
